The search for natural gas and oil resources has a long and storied history in the Ohio Valley, going back to the 1800s. However, today there are quite a number of changes to the landscape, and learning about what the search for resources means for the local community can be difficult sometimes.

So in order to help with the search for real information, I’ve put together this blog post. It’s filled with various resources for information that pertains to oil and gas exploration in the Ohio Valley area. Ohio DNR Division of Oil and Gas Resources

This website is filled with lots of information concerning the process of oil and gas exploration in Ohio — including the location of various wells, how and what to do in an emergency response, the laws and regulations that cover gas and oil exploration as well as how to request information about specific drilling activities, chemical information and general practices. It’s a great starting point to get the information that you need.

Ohio Oil and Gas Association

If you’re looking for information and insight with an industry slant, this website is a great place to go. Membership in the organization consists of industry, technical and consulting firms that are focused on the exploration for and distribution of natural gas and oil in the state of Ohio. It’s a great place to gain insight into how and what the industry wants you to know.

Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program (OOGEEP)

This non-profit is a great source for educational information, that is factually sound, easy to understand and focused on educating teachers, students and the public about gas and oil exploration in the Ohio Valley. It’s funded by the state oil and gas industry through an assessment on the production of all crude oil and natural gas products in Ohio.

Ohio Environmental Council

The Ohio Environmental Council is a relative veteran to the idea of environmental stewardship in Ohio, having been established in 1969. It is billed as one of the most comprehensive and respected advocates for the environmental health and well-being of Ohio. Active in industry, politics and community outreach, this community resource can be a great source of information about the potential benefits and drawbacks of oil and gas exploration in the Ohio River Valley.
